Rights-centric education day in Luxembourg
What does it mean to place human rights, participation, and dignity at the heart of education? How can schools and learning communities prepare young people not only for the future of work, but for the future of democracy, wellbeing, and digital society?
These are some of the key questions that will shape the upcoming Rights-Centric Education Day in Luxembourg — an inspiring gathering of educators, youth workers, activists, researchers, parents, learners, and policy innovators committed to transforming education through a rights-centered lens.
The event brings together an afternoon and evening programme filled with speakers, interactive discussions, networking opportunities, and a collaborative forum exploring the future of education in Europe and beyond.
A collective effort for educational transformation
The event is co-organized by CollectiveUP together with partners and networks working at the intersection of democratic education, participation, human rights, and social innovation.
Among the co-organizers and contributors are organizations connected to the broader Rights-Centric Education and FutureEd ecosystems, including EUDEC – European Democratic Education Community and ALLI, both actively engaged in promoting learner agency, inclusive governance, and educational freedom.
Hosted in Luxembourg, the event creates a space where local and international voices can meet to exchange experiences and co-create educational practices grounded in rights, participation, inclusion, and democratic values.
Why rights-centric education matters now
Across Europe, education systems are facing growing challenges:
- increasing social polarization,
- declining civic participation,
- rapid digital transformation,
- the rise of AI in education,
- growing mental health concerns among youth,
- and widening inequalities in access, voice, and opportunity.
At the same time, many children and young people still experience education systems where participation is limited and rights are often discussed theoretically rather than practiced daily.
Rights-centric education seeks to change this by moving beyond abstract conversations about rights and toward lived experiences of dignity, autonomy, participation, safety, and belonging.
This approach recognizes learners not merely as future workers or passive recipients of knowledge, but as active subjects of rights today.
Exploring the future of education together
The Rights-Centric Education Day will feature an engaging afternoon and evening programme with speakers and forum participants from different educational and social innovation backgrounds.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore topics such as:
- democratic and participatory education,
- children’s rights in digital environments,
- digital rights and AI literacy,
- learner agency and self-directed learning,
- inclusion and wellbeing,
- human rights education,
- alternative and innovative educational models,
- and the role of communities in shaping sustainable futures.
The event is designed not only as a conference, but as a collaborative and reflective space where dialogue, co-creation, and exchange are central.
CollectiveUP’s contribution: digital rights and inclusive futures
As part of the event, CollectiveUP will contribute perspectives from its ongoing European initiatives related to digital rights, inclusive innovation, and future-oriented education.
Building on projects such as FutureEd, St@ndByMe, Skills+ 3.0 and DIGISET, CollectiveUP continues advocating for educational ecosystems where children and young people can understand and exercise their rights both offline and online.
In an era increasingly shaped by algorithms, AI systems, and data-driven technologies, rights-centric education becomes essential to empower learners to navigate the digital world critically, safely, and ethically.
An invitation to educators, changemakers, and communities
The Rights-Centric Education Day is open to anyone interested in shaping more democratic, inclusive, and human-centered approaches to learning.
Whether you are:
