On 16 June 2026, we gathered in Lille to explore the role of artificial intelligence in the social and solidarity economy (SSE). Through participatory activities, practical workshops and open discussion, the day put dialogue at the heart of our approach: making space for people to share their experiences, voice their concerns and imagine where AI might—or might not—fit into their work.

Morning: Exploring AI Together at Café IAssos

The morning Café IAssos brought together 15 participants for a programme structured around four activities:

• Getting to know each other through an “AI coat of arms”: a creative activity that helped participants introduce themselves and share their perceptions of AI.

• A moving debate: participants positioned themselves in response to different statements, explored contrasting views and discussed their perspectives.

• An overview of AI today: a shared look at the current landscape, its context, key challenges and recent developments.

• A design thinking workshop: each group explored a workplace situation and considered whether AI could be useful—or whether a non-AI approach would be more appropriate—in their sector.

Rather than taking AI adoption for granted, the morning invited participants to reflect on its relevance to their actual needs and working practices.

Afternoon: Exploring Blind Spots and Shaping Shared Principles

Rather than taking AI adoption for granted, the morning invited participants to reflect on its relevance to their actual needs and working practices.

Exploring AI’s Blind Spots with Nassima from FARI

FARI facilitated a coaching session focused on AI’s blind spots. Participants explored how the configuration of AI tools and systems can introduce biases, encouraging a more critical understanding of their outputs and limitations.

Discussing an AI Charter for the Social and Solidarity Economy

Hub les Assembleurs then presented and facilitated a workshop around an AI charter for the social and solidarity economy. The session offered a space to discuss the principles that should guide AI use within the sector.

A Shared Space for Questions, Concerns and Hopes

Throughout the day, participants engaged in democratic discussion about today’s AI technologies. They shared their perspectives and experiences, connected with one another, and expressed both their fears and their hopes.

These exchanges helped participants recognise that their questions were not isolated concerns, but shared challenges that could be explored collectively. The event was not simply about discovering AI tools: it was about creating space to question them together and reflect on the place they should—or should not—have in everyday work.

It was a true space of collective intelligence, allowing us to identify challenges, generate ideas, and co-design a roadmap for putting AI at the service of the Social and Solidarity Economy.
